A great-tasting tradition soon to become a memory that lasts long after the guests have left. Our Eden Ridge Turkeys are not your average Thanksgiving bird. Our birds are raised on pasture in their natural environment – leaving you with an unparalleled texture and superlative flavor. Pastured turkey meat is lean yet tender, nutritious, and very flavorful. As is the case with other pasture-raised meats, pasture-raised turkey is much higher in omega-3 fatty acids and has a better balance of omega-6 to omega-3 fats than any factory-farmed turkey.

Turkey FAQ

1. Why Don't You Raise Turkeys Year-Round?
Turkeys are surprisingly sensitive creatures that struggle during the winter months. The cold temperatures can result in discomfort and illness, causing stress for our happily pastured birds and increasing their risk of pneumonia. Our commitment to the health and well-being of all our farm animals, including our turkeys, is paramount. For this reason, we opt to raise them in milder weather, ensuring they are processed just in time for the major holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

2. Why Frozen?
Our birds are processed during Thanksgiving week each year to ensure they are as fresh as possible for your holiday table, whether for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Since fresh or thawed birds can only be safely stored in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days before cooking, we have opted to freeze them before the initial farm pickup days.

3.  Does a Pasture Diet Effect the Flavor of the Meat?
Absolutely! Our turkeys are raised on pasture, enjoying fresh air, ample exercise, and abundant sunshine. They graze on extensive amounts of vibrant, green pasture and forage bugs daily, supplemented with non-GMO, soy-free grains (no animal biproduct fillers). Together, these elements contribute to exceptionally flavorful and healthy good-for-you meat.

4. Do your Turkeys Receive any Antibiotics or Hormones?
Absolutely not! Our turkeys are raised on a natural wild diet, along with GMO-free grain and soy-free feed (with no animal biproducts), which means they have no necessity for antibiotics or hormones.

5. What is the Processing Method for Your Turkeys?
Maintaining the quality and safety of our poultry even during processing is very important to us. Each turkey is carefully inspected to guarantee that it meets our rigorous expectations for taste and freshness. We take pride in partnering with a very reputable locker that shares in our commitment to sustainability and ethical farming practices, ensuring that you receive the finest turkey for your family's table. Whether you're planning a festive feast or a simple family dinner, our turkeys are prepared to deliver a delicious and wholesome experience from pasture to plate.

Turkey Basics: Safe Thawing

Turkeys must be kept at a safe temperature during “the big thaw.” While frozen, a turkey is indefinitely safe. However, as soon as it begins to thaw, any bacteria that may have been present before freezing can begin to grow again. A package of frozen meat or poultry left thawing on the counter more than 2 hours is not at a safe temperature. Even though the center of the package may still be frozen, the outer layer of the food is in the "Danger Zone" between 40 and 140 °F — at a temperature where food-borne bacteria multiplies rapidly.

Safe Methods for Thawing

Immediately after picking up your Eden Ridge turkey, take the frozen turkey home and store it in the freezer. Frozen turkeys should not be left on the back porch, in the car trunk, in the basement, or any place else where temperatures cannot be constantly monitored.

Refrigerator Method
When thawing a turkey in the refrigerator: Plan ahead: allow approximately 24 hours for each 4 to 5 pounds in a refrigerator set at 40 °F or below. Place the turkey in a container to prevent the juices from dripping on other foods.

Cold Water Method
Allow about 30 minutes per pound. • First be sure the turkey is in a leak-proof plastic bag to prevent cross-contamination and to prevent the turkey from absorbing water, resulting in a watery product. • Submerge the wrapped turkey in cold tap water. Change the water every 30 minutes until the turkey is thawed. Cook the turkey immediately after it is thawed.
